Baltic amber has long been used for the fashioning of jewelry and ornaments. It is also been used for medicinal purposes. While amber looks like a stone, when held it surprisingly gives a deep sensation of warmth. When heated amber will emit a soothing scent of resin and because of this it made people believe in the therapeutic qualities of amber. Amber has been used to sooth aching muscles. When amber is powdered and mixed with honey it was believed to be a cure for asthma.
Some people believe to this day that an amber bracelet will help ease rheumatic pain. Also many believe that aura given off by amber helps the stomach, intestine, liver and kidneys of the wearer. The negative charge properties of amber when rubbed are believed to help with depression and fatigue. Worn as a pendant or necklace, amber is said to warm the heart of the owner assisting to fight colds and the flu. In the middle-ages amber beads were worn as a means to treating jaundice.
Even today in Poland homeopathic pharmacies sell amber spirit and amber ointment to fight against rheumatism, neuralgic pains and arthritis. In Lithuania today many women suffering from goitre purchase amber beads to wear around their necks as a cure. |
